Bishkek entered top 10 popular tourist destinations among Russians in 2018 Bishkek, Apr. 17, 2018 / Kabar /. Bishkek again entered the top 10 popular tourist destinations among Russians in the spring of 2018. The ranking of the cities of the CIS for travels of Russian tourists this spring was made by TurStat analytical agency.

Minsk, Astana, Baku, Yerevan, Almaty, Tashkent, Chisinau, Bishkek, Dushanbe and Ashgabat are among the top ten CIS cities for spring travel. The rating is based on the analysis of the popularity of tourist trips in the spring of this year.

Sapat lyceums in Kyrgyzstan will not be closed Bishkek, Apr. 17, 2018 / Kabar/. The lyceums of the Sapat international educational institution in Kyrgyzstan are not subject to closure, chief of the foreign policy department of the Kyrgyz President’s Office Daniyar Sydykov told reporters at Kabar News Agency.

He explained that the founders of acting lyceums are citizens of Kyrgyzstan, and in this connection there are no grounds for stopping their activities on the territory of the country.

"No one will close Sapat lyceums. The Turkish side knows that today the founders of this educational institution are citizens of the Kyrgyz Republic and the Ministry of Education and Science," Sydykov said.

According to his data, over 11 thousand children study at Sapat lyceums today. The educational institution will continue its work in accordance with the current legislation of Kyrgyzstan, as well as the norms and requirements of the Ministry of Education and Science,” he said.

Sapat International Educational Institution is the private comprehensive educational institution in the Kyrgyz Republic acting on the basis of an agreement between the Ministry of Education and Culture of the Kyrgyz Republic and the Turkish Educational Association.

The Institute has branches in all parts of the country. Since 1992 the International Educational Institution was called Sebat and was renamed after Sapat in 2017 after the founders of the institution became the Ministry of Education of Kyrgyzstan.

Working groups of Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan met on delimitation and demarcation of state borders Tashkent, Apr. 13, 2018 / Kabar /. On Apr. 11 a regular meeting of working groups of government delegations of Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan on delimitation and demarcation of the Kyrgyz-Uzbek state border was successfully concluded in the city of Namangan, the press service of the Uzbek Foreign Ministry reported.

"During the meeting, the sides continued the work on the description of the passage of the Kyrgyz-Uzbek border line through the sections that were not included in the agreement on the Kyrgyz-Uzbek state border of September 5, 2017," the report said.

The meeting was held in the spirit of good-neighborliness and mutual understanding. A protocol was signed after the talks.

OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities and Government of Kyrgyzstan to intensify co-operation on inter-ethnic policy and multilingual education BISHKEK, 12 April 2018 – During his first visit to Kyrgyzstan in his capacity as OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities (HCNM), Lamberto Zannier agreed with the authorities to intensify their long-standing co-operation on the integration of society and inter-ethnic policy, particularly in the field of education.

To formalize this next phase of the partnership, Zannier and Minister of Education and Science Gulmira Kudaiberdieva signed a Memorandum of Co-operation on Multilingual and Multicultural Education.

“I commend this new positive step in our co-operation with Kyrgyzstan,” said Zannier. “Education is at the forefront of my institution’s engagement in this country to advance social cohesion and foster a stable society with linguistic diversity.”

Under the Memorandum, the HCNM and the Ministry will continue the third phase of the Central Asia Education Programme, which promotes integrative and inclusive multilingual education (MLE) both at national level and through regional co-operation between the Central Asian Republics. Multilingual programmes encourage the learning of the State language among minority communities while simultaneously enabling them to study in their mother tongues. Since 2005, MLE has been introduced in 78 schools and 13 kindergartens across the country. Five universities are involved in MLE teacher preparation.

Zannier also agreed with the authorities to continue their co-operation on further developing the State Concept concerning national unity and integration of diverse society as well as on addressing root causes of violent extremism and radicalization.

“Eight years after the tragic events in Osh, the inter-ethnic situation in the south of the country has stabilized but challenges remain; concerted efforts are needed to ensure that all communities feel included and are able to participate freely in public life,” said Zannier.

During his three-day visit to the cities of Bishkek and Osh, Zannier also met with Prime Minister Sapar Isakov, other representatives of the central and regional authorities as well as UN Agencies, education professionals, and members of civil society and national minority communities.

WHO will assist Kyrgyzstan in implementing e-health Bishkek, Apr. 11, 2018 / Kabar /. The World Health Organization (WHO) will assist Kyrgyzstan in implementing e-health. The agreement on support was reached during the meeting of Deputy Minister of Health for Digital Development Erkin Checheibaev with head of WHO country office in the Kyrgyz Republic Jarno Habicht.

WHO will provide technical support for the examination of concept documents, strategies for digital health development.

The sides also discussed issues of closer cooperation in other areas, with more active involvement of WHO technical coordinators in the country in the areas of activity.

"WHO is supporting the health care system in many ways," Checheibaev said. "We hope that with your technical support, the introduction of e-health in the healthcare organizations of the republic will significantly accelerate and the Ministry of Health will be able to improve the quality of medical care, especially in the regions."

"E-health is one of the priorities, its successful implementation is important for people's health in Kyrgyzstan," said Jarno Habicht. According to data of the public fund, out of the total number of young people who marry - 13% get married before the age of 18.

The fund also presented infographics on gender and violence in the family, referring to data of the UN Women Central Asia.

The information indicates that in Central and South Asia the highest percentage of marriages is observed at a minor age.

Thus, 16% of women married under 15 years of age and 43% under 18 years of age.

Signs for tourists installed across Kyrgyzstan Bishkek, Apr. 10, 2018. / Kabar /. The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) is installing 125 new road signs and street maps to improve the tourism experience in Kyrgyzstan. The tourist signs will help visitors to navigate through cities and trekking routes, and show directions to major tourist attractions. This initiative is a part of USAID’s Business Growth Initiative project, which works to strengthen the tourism sector in the country.

According to the USAID/Kyrgyz Republic Mission Director Kimberly Rosen, since 2016, USAID has installed 80 directional signs along major roads, and street maps for walking tours in Osh and Karakol, bringing the total to 205 signs installed throughout the country by June. “This year, USAID is installing an additional eight trekking maps and 11 tourist maps in Naryn, Issyk-Kul, and Osh, as well as 106 directional road signs throughout Kyrgyzstan” said Ms. Rosen.

The road signs adhere to the internationally-recognized color (brown) and format for parks and recreation. Lettering is made of special reflective material that is visible to passing motorists at night.

Installation of the tourist signs is a part of USAID’s broader efforts to enhance tourism in the Kyrgyz Republic under its Business Growth Initiative.The project helps to strengthen tourism companies, hotels, guest houses, museums as well as promote Kyrgyzstan in international markets. Last year, partner hotels and guest houses reported 48% increase in the number of tourists visiting compared to 2016. The local tourism development groups reported an increase in revenues in 2017 of 40 percent, while tour operators reported the sales increase of 13 percent. USAID's support resulted in attracting more foreign tourists, creating more jobs, and increasing incomes in the sector that will have a long-term positive impact and ensure sustainable economic growth and stability in the Kyrgyz Republic.

First plant in Central Asia to assemble digital electronic detonators opened in Kyrgyzstan Bishkek, Apr. 10, 2018. / Kabar /. The first plant in Central Asia to assemble modern digital electronic detonators was opened in Kyrgyzstan, the press service of the State Committee for Industry, Energy and Subsoil Use of the Kyrgyz Republic reported.

The opening ceremony of the plant was attended by Deputy Chairman of the State Committee for Industry, Energy and Subsoil Use of Kyrgyzstan Suyuntbek Alikeyev, General Director of the Kas Impuls plant LLC Nuriya Tabyshova, representatives of the local authorities and subsoil users, and other invited guests.

The director of the enterprise noted that to date all preparatory and commissioning works in the mechanical shop have been completed, there are all permits from the authorized state bodies of the republic, and the facility was put into operation.

LLC "Kas Impulse" is a joint venture of the Kyrgyz Republic and China, the main activity of which is the assembly of modern electronic detonators. China hosts Media Leaders Summit for Asia Sanya, Apr. 9, 2018 / Kabar /. Media Leaders Summit for Asia is held in Sanya, Hainan Province. The summit was held within the framework of the Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference 2018 (BFA). Chairman of the People's Republic of China Xi Jinping is expected to attend the Boao Conference.

Belarus to participate in healthcare, food expos in Kyrgyzstan Bishkek, Apr. 7, 2018 / Kabar /. Belarusian exporters will take part in MedExpo 2018 and FoodExpo Kyrgyzstan in Bishkek, BelTA learned from representatives of the National Center for Marketing and Price Studies of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

MedExpo is scheduled for 10-12 April. Products will be presented by the Applied Research Center for Neurology and Neurosurgery of the Belarusian Healthcare Ministry and by the Belarusian companies Belsept, Gomselmash, Ekzon, and Arvitmedikl. The source noted that representatives of the Belarusian healthcare and pharmaceutical industries have great opportunities for penetrating the Kyrgyz market. In 2017 the country launched a government program on modernizing the national healthcare system. By autumn 2018 Kyrgyzstan intends to buy modern medical equipment and quality medications to the tune of $7 million. The establishment of bilateral cooperation in the sphere of medical tourism looks promising.

FoodExpo Kyrgyzstan is also interesting for Belarusian exporters. Their number includes Spartak, Agrokombinat Skidelsky, Oshmyany Meat Processing Plant, Brestmiasomolprom, Smorgon Dairy Products, Lida Milk Plant, and Pinsk Meat-Packing Plant.

In 2017 Belarus' export to Kyrgyzstan rose by 2.5 times from 2016. In 2017 Belarus' main exports to Kyrgyzstan included milk, condensed cream, cream powder, butter, cheese, and quark cheese. These Belarusian products were not shipped to Kyrgyzstan or shipped in insignificant amounts in 2016. As far as these products in the structure of Kyrgyzstan's import are concerned, Belarus was ranked the top exporter in physical terms and cost terms.

Mongolia to open embassy in Kyrgyzstan Bishkek, Apr. 7, 2018 / Kabar /. Mongolia's State Great Khural, or the parliament, said Friday that it had passed a draft resolution to expand its consulate general into an embassy in Bishkek, capital of Kyrgyzstan, Xinhua reported.

Since Mongolia and Kyrgyzstan forged diplomatic ties in 1992, bilateral ties have been continually developing in the political sphere with reciprocal visits growing increasingly frequent.

There are 18 agreements effectively regulating the two countries' cooperation at present, and more are on the agenda.

Uzbek border guards shoot Kyrgyz citizen Bishkek, Apr. 7, 2018 / Kabar/. Border guards of Uzbekistan shot a Kyrgyz citizen, the Public Relations and Media Department of the State Border Service (SBS) of the Kyrgyz Republic reported.

On April 7, in the Mamai area of Aksy region of Jalal-Abad oblast, Kyrgyz servicemen used weapons against a citizen of Kyrgyzstan, a resident of the village of Kurulush of Aksy region born in 1984.

According to data of the SBS of Kyrgyzstan, a Kyrgyz citizen was located on the territory of Kyrgyzstan and was heading towards Mamai village (KR).

Later he died in the local hospital from received wounds.

An investigation has started on the fact.

At present border representatives of Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan are holding a meeting to clarify the causes and circumstances of the incident.

SDF to allocate $ 3.7 mln grant to Kyrgyzstan for purchase of medical equipment. Bishkek, April 6, 18 / Kabar /. The Government of Kyrgyzstan and the Saudi Fund for Development (SDF) signed an agreement on granting $ 3 million 797 thousand to provide medical centers in Bishkek, Kara-Kulja village of Osh region and Tup village of Issyk-Kul oblast with equipment.

The grant will be used for equipping with modern high-tech medical equipment of the Heart Research and Organ Transplantation Institute in Bishkek and for construction of a laboratory-quarantine zone.

The document was signed on Apr. 4 as part of the participation of Deputy Prime Minister Sanjar Mukanbetov in the 43rd Annual Meeting of the IDB Group in Tunisia.

The press service of the National Statistics Committee of the Kyrgyz Republic reported that representatives of 55 countries take part in the work of the PARIS21 Concern. Next SCO RATS meeting will be held in Kyrgyzstan Tashkent, Apr. 5, 2018. / Kabar /. The 32nd meeting of the Council of the Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (RATS SCO) was held in Tashkent under the chairmanship of Kyrgyzstan.

It was attended by the delegation of Kyrgyzstan headed by director of the Ant-Terrorist Center of the State Committee for National Security Rustam Mamasydykov, as well as representatives of India, Kazakhstan, China, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and the Executive Committee of the SCO RATS.

The participants of the meeting approved the drafts of the Program of Cooperation of the SCO Member States in Combating Terrorism, Separatism and Extremism for 2019-2021 and the report of the SCO RATS Council to the forthcoming SCO summit on the activities of this organization in 2017.

The results of the joint antiterrorist exercise of the competent bodies of the SCO member states to identify and suppress the use of the Internet for terrorist, separatist and extremist purposes "Xiamen-2017" were approved. A decision was made to hold in 2018 a joint border operation of the SCO member states.

The participants also discussed threats to SCO member states caused by international terrorist organizations, reached an agreement on strengthening cooperation between the competent bodies of the SCO member states.

In order to develop international cooperation in the sphere of combating terrorism, the drafts of memorandums of understanding and cooperation of the SCO RATS with the Executive Directorate of the CTC of the UN Security Council and the UN Counter-Terrorism Agency have been approved.

It was decided to hold in the fourth quarter of 2018 the Sixth Scientific and Practical Conference on Cooperation of the SCO Member States and Observer States in the area of ​​countering international terrorism and extremism.

An agreement was reached to hold the next meeting of the SCO RATS Council in October 2018 in the territory of the Kyrgyz Republic.

Mobile photo exhibition about "hidden hunger" opened in Kyrgyz Parliament building Bishkek, Apr. 5, 2018 / Kabar /. A mobile photo exhibition about "hidden hunger" was opened in the building of the Kyrgyz Parliament, the press service of the Jogorku Kenesh reported.

In Nov. 2017, the Citizens' Alliance for Improving Nutrition and Food Security with the support of the United Nations Children's Fund in Kyrgyzstan (UNICEF) and member of the Kyrgyz Parliament Osmonbek Artykbayev launched a photo contest "Kyrgyzstan Free of Anemia".

On the results, the mobile photo exhibition of the same name was officially opened. The goal was to collect conceptual photographs of professional, as well as amateur photographers, on the anemia problem.

Further the photos will be exhibited in building of state agencies within two months to draw the attention of decision-makers to the problem of anemia, unbalanced nutrition and their consequences.

The opening of the exhibition will be followed by a round table where specialists from different sectors will discuss what is being done to eradicate the hidden hunger.

In Kyrgyzstan, women and children are most at risk of developing anemia, 35% of women of childbearing age and 43% of children under age 5 suffer from anemia.
