Zheenbekov takes part in opening of the monument to Manas in Istanbul

ISTANBUL, Aug. 9, 2017 /Kabar/. Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan Sooronbai Zheenbekov participated today in the solemn opening ceremony of the monument to the hero of the Kyrgyz epic "Manas" in the park zone of the picturesque region of Eyup in the city of Istanbul (Turkey).

The ceremony was opened with legends of excerpts from the Manas epic.

Zheenbekov said that today there is a big event for the entire Kyrgyz people. "We are opening a monument to the great Manas in the historical land of Turkey. This is a historic moment, which proves the unity of the Kyrgyz and Turkish peoples. I am sure that this will strengthen the ties between our countries," the prime minister said.

Zheenbekov noted that it is a great honor for the Kyrgyz people to establish a monument to Manas in Istanbul. The epic with a volume of 500 thousand lines is a great wealth for world literature.

"Since 1991, when our country gained independence, to this day the friendly Turkish people continue to help us. Turkey was one of the first to recognize the independence of Kyrgyzstan. Turkey will always remain a close friend and reliable partner for the Kyrgyz people," the head of the Cabinet said.

Mayor of the city of Istanbul Kadir Top Bash in his turn stressed that today is a landmark event for the Kyrgyz and Turkish peoples. "Today we will write a new letter in history. The opening of the monument to Manas is very important not only for the Kyrgyz, but also for the Turks. The Manas epic is an encyclopedia in world culture. And we are proud that the monument to Manas is erected in Istanbul," he said.

The press service of the Kyrgyz government reported that, the work on cultural project to install a monument to the hero of the Manas epic in Istanbul was started at the initiative of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic within the framework of the Year of History and Culture, announced in 2016.

This project is conditioned by the need to deepen cultural and humanitarian cooperation between the Turkish and Kyrgyz peoples, as well as great interest of Turkish scholars and intellectuals to study the unique literary work - the Kyrgyz heroic Manas epic.
