Zheenbekov congratulated Mogherini on receiving the high state award of Kyrgyzstan - the Dostuk Order (Friendship) and said that this is a sign of high appreciation of the Kyrgyz side for supporting the European Union in Kyrgyzstan's efforts to strengthen democracy, parliamentarism and reforms in key areas. "In 2000-2005 I was co-chairman of the deputy group for cooperation with the European Union, we closely cooperated with the deputies of European countries. As the newly elected President of Kyrgyzstan, I will make every effort to further develop cooperation with the European Union. The course on the development of parliamentary democracy in our country will only be strengthened, and we look forward to further fruitful cooperation with the EU," he said.
Mogherini, congratulating Zheenbekov on his election as president of the Kyrgyz Republic, stressed the need for deepening cooperation. "Kyrgyzstan has shown an example of holding open and clean elections. You have challenging tasks ahead of you in your responsible post and we are ready to support you in your striving to build and develop a democratic state. We are ready to continue to support the development of democracy and the economy of the country," said the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy.
Zheenbekov said that at the last presidential election there was a struggle between two ideas - for the presidential and parliamentary government. "The idea of parliamentary government won, which means that we must do our best to strengthen parliamentary democracy in Kyrgyzstan," the President-elect concluded.
