Bishkek, March 29 / Kabar /. The delegation of the Kyrgyz Parliament headed by Speaker Chynybai Tursunbekov took part today in St. Petersburg in the international parliamentary conference on combating international terrorism as part of a working visit. The organizers of this event are the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly and the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, the press service of the Jogorku Kenesh reports.
Speaking at the conference, Chynybai Tursunbekov said that a little more than a quarter of a century passed after the end of the Cold War, the international community once again faced the threat of polarization of the world, the growth of armed conflicts, terrorism and extremism, and other negative tendencies that affect peaceful people, millions of people have become refugees and need humanitarian assistance.
"Kyrgyzstan faithfully fulfills its obligations and is committed to constructive participation at the national, regional and international levels in the fight against terrorism. We closely cooperate in the fight against terrorism at the bilateral level, at the level of regional international organizations with the CSTO, the CIS, the SCO, the OSCE, as well as in the multilateral format of the UN universal institutes for implementing the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy and relevant resolutions of the UN Security Council," he said.
Tursunbekov added that at the moment Kyrgyzstan has joined 10 out of 16 international UN unified documents regulating the provisions on crimes and measures to counter them in the sphere of terrorism.
"The republic pays special attention to strengthening interfaith dialogue, the principles of respect for different views and beliefs, tolerance, preventing the radicalization of religions, improving the mechanisms for ensuring state and public security, and countering manifestations of religious extremism, destructive and radical currents. In this regard, Kyrgyzstan approved the Concept of State Policy in the Religious Sphere for 2014-2020, he said.
In addition, the Kyrgyz Speaker stressed that the political instability in Afghanistan and the uncontrollability of a large part of its territory by the central government are of particular concern. Such a situation creates favorable conditions for the preparation of terrorist groups in the country, which present a real threat to military and political stability in the Central Asian states. "Kyrgyzstan intends to take an active position on all the key issues on the international agenda on Afghanistan and make a weighty contribution to the implementation of important decisions to restore Afghanistan and strengthen confidence building measures within the UN, the SCO, the CSTO, the Istanbul Process and the Afghanistan Contact Groups on Security,“ he said.
In conclusion, Chynybai Tursunbekov said that the overall stability in the world depends on each individual country, and called on the participants of the conference to work on strengthening inter-parliamentary cooperation for joint effective struggle against terrorist threats.
