Tursunbekov: "Kyrgyzstan and Russia are old friends and reliable partners"

Bishkek, June 28 / Kabar /. Speaker of the Kyrgyz Parliament Chynybai Tursunbekov today met with Chairman of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Vyacheslav Volodin, who is in Bishkek for official visit.

During the meeting, the sides touched upon the current state of bilateral political and economic relations and discussed the issues of interparliamentary cooperation, the press service of the Jogorku Kenesh reported.

The Kyrgyz Speaker stressed the importance of cooperation with the Russian Federation. "Looking at the history of relations between Kyrgyzstan and Russia, we see a trend of progressive and continuous development of partnership cooperation. I note with satisfaction that the Kyrgyz Republic and the Russian Federation are old friends and reliable partners. In this regard, it is necessary to continue and develop our traditional friendly relations," the Speaker said.

At the same time, Tursunbekov stressed that within the framework of international activities Russia is one of the most important strategic partners of Kyrgyzstan and reminded of the recent state visit of President Atambayev to Russia, during which a number of agreements were reached aimed at developing the Kyrgyz-Russian cooperation. The Speaker also expressed his gratitude for the Russian side for writing-off of Kyrgyzstan's debt of $ 240 million.

In addition, Tursunbekov stressed the importance of economic cooperation, which, he stressed, is one of the priority areas of interstate relations. "The volume of trade between Kyrgyzstan and Russia is growing every day.

The Speaker also noted the need to jointly combat terrorism and extremism. "Russia and Kyrgyzstan cooperate not only in political and economic spheres, but also have close ties in the field of security. "Joint activities aimed at combating modern challenges will not only contribute to ensuring security in the region, but will also contribute to stability in the world," he said.

In turn, Vyacheslav Volodin stressed the great contribution of the Jogorku Kenesh to the development of bilateral relations between Kyrgyzstan and Russia in general. "Our main goal is to support the development of relations between the two countries at the legislative level," he said.

During the meeting, the sides also discussed the issues related to improving the situation of Kyrgyz migrants.
