Reconstruction of Toktogul HPP will increase Kyrgyzstan’s GDP by 1.5%

Kara-Kul, Oct. 18, 2019. / Kabar /. A 20% increase in electricity generation will increase the country's GDP by 1.5%, President of Kyrgyzstan Sooronbay Jeenbekov said during the visit to the Toktogul hydro power plant.

He said that today the first phase of the project on the reconstruction of the Toktogul HPP has been completed, as a result of which electricity generation will increase by 20%.

Sooronbay Jeenbekov said that the power system provides 7% of the country's economy.

“The energy industry is of strategic importance for the country. Well, ensuring energy security is equivalent to national security,” the president added.

Jeenbekov noted that the annual demand of the republic is 12.5 billion sq / h, and this demand is growing every year.

“60% of the electricity is consumed by the population, and 40% is consumed by budgetary organizations and business structures,” he added.
