President Jeenbekov meets with EBRD representatives

Bishkek, Feb. 27, 2018 / Kabar /. President of Kyrgyzstan Sooronbay Jeenbekov received regional director of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) for Central Asia Neil McCain and EBRD Head of Infrastructure Policy Matthew Jordan-Tank, the press service of the President's Office reported.

The Kyrgyz President expressed his gratitude to the EBRD for the support provided in implementation of projects aimed at social and economic development of the country.

Jeenbekov stressed that the EBRD is one of the main partners of Kyrgyzstan in building the prospects for long-term and sustainable development.

EBRD representatives Neil McCain and Matthew Jordan-Tank spoke about the bank's experience and shared proposals for cooperation.

"Our priorities are the rehabilitation and development of water supply and irrigation system in the regions and small towns. On Feb. 23, 2018, the Bank approved the concept of an investment project for modernization of the irrigation infrastructure of the Kyrgyz Republic for EUR 86 mln. We plan to modernize the irrigation infrastructure in Osh, Jalal-Abad, Batken and Naryn oblasts, build new ones and rehabilitate existing channels and improve transport links," Neil McCain said.

"Within the framework of joint cooperation, the most important projects were implemented to improve the investment climate, strengthen municipal and infrastructural services in small towns, support the development of private enterprises and local financial institutions and strengthen the financial sector through the provision of loans and grants. The EBRD invested about 166 projects in Kyrgyzstan worth about EUR 667 mln. The financial means were aimed at strengthening the transport infrastructure, modernizing and reconstructing water supply and sanitation system, agriculture, energy and financial institutions,” Sooronbay Jeenbekov emphasized.

In conclusion, the President stressed that Kyrgyzstan highly appreciates cooperation with the EBRD for their support in implementing social and economic projects in the regions of the country.
