Bishkek, Oct.8, 2019. /Kabar/. Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan Mukhammedkalyi Abylgaziev met with Lilia Burunciuc, the Regional Director for the Central Asia Region at the World Bank.
The Government’s press service said that the prime minister noted the important role of the World Bank in the social and economic development of the country and poverty reduction, and expressed gratitude for the support of the reforms.
“The World Bank is a reliable partner of the Kyrgyz Republic. We are grateful for the fruitful cooperation in solving social and economic issues important for us. Among the positive results of cooperation is the reduction of the country's external debt over 3 years from 64% of GDP in 2015 to 43.5% of GDP,” he said.
PM Abylgaziev noted Kyrgyzstan entered the top 20 countries-reformers of the Doing Business 2020 rating, published by the World Bank.
“The government will make every effort to implement investment projects financed by the World Bank as soon as possible,” Abylgaziev said.
Regional Director for the Central Asia Region at the World Bank Lilia Burunciuc noted she is pleased with the positive changes taking place in the country, as well as the positive results of cooperation between the World Bank and the Kyrgyz Republic.
She spoke about the joint projects being prepared concerning regional development, education and tax administration.
In the course of the meeting, the sides condemned the issues of attracting additional investments in the amount of $110 million in excess of the approved limits for the Kyrgyz Republic.
Mukhammedkalyi Abylgaziev emphasized the Government’s readiness to finalize the project designs as soon as possible for subsequent submission to the Board of Directors of the World Bank for approval.
World Bank Country Manager for the Kyrgyz Republic Bolormaa Amgaabazar also participated in the meeting.
