PACE President: "Kyrgyzstan is a special country in Central Asia"

Bishkek, March 27 / Kabar /. Speaker of Kyrgyz Parliament Chynybai Tursunbekov met in St. Petersburg on March 26 with Pedro Agramunt, Chairman of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.

The press service of the Jogorku Kenesh reports that, during the meeting the parties discussed the issues of development of multilateral cooperation of Kyrgyzstan with the countries that are members of the European Union, and exchanged views on the future of parliamentary cooperation.

Chynybai Tursunbekov stressed that for Kyrgyzstan, which chose the way of parliamentary democracy the successful experience of Europe is very important. "It is also necessary to implement joint projects aimed at strengthening the inter-parliamentary dialogue," he said.

Speaker Tursunbekov added that the result of Kyrgyzstan's close cooperation with the European Union will be a free society and development of parliamentary democracy. He thanked the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe for supporting all democratic reforms in the country, and invited Pedro Agramunt to pay an official visit to Kyrgyzstan.

In turn, Pedro Agramunt highly appreciated the achievements of Kyrgyzstan in the electoral process and expressed the hope that the upcoming presidential elections will also be clean and open as parliamentary one in 2015. "We would also like to send PACE election observers to Kyrgyzstan," he added.

In addition, Pedro Agramunt stressed that he is ready to support Kyrgyzstan in the framework of the work of the Venice Commission. In conclusion, the PACE President thanked the Speaker for the invitation to visit Kyrgyzstan for an official visit.

The delegation of the Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic headed by Speaker Chynybai Tursunbekov is in St. Petersburg within the framework of the jubilee sessions of the IPA CIS and the CSTO PA.
