Bishkek, May 17, 2018. / Kabar /. The number of young people is declining in Kyrgyzstan, Mirlan Parkhanov, deputy director of the State Agency for Youth, Culture and Sports told at a press conference at Kabar News Agency.
He noted that if on January 1, 2017 the number of young people (according to the law of the KR, youth are the citizens aged 14 - 28 years old) made 29% of the total population in the country, then for the same period of 2018 the figure dropped to 25.7% .
"The reason for the decline in the number of young people is a decrease in the birth rate," he explained.
Parkhanov said that according to international research organizations, in Kyrgyzstan the number of young people will significantly decrease by 2020.
"This will lead to an increase in the people of the older generation. And this will also affect the economic and political transformation of the country," he added.
In addition, the deputy director of the State Agency for Youth, Physical Education and Sports said that in 2017 a program was developed to develop youth policy until 2020.
