Bishkek, Apr. 16, 2018. / Kabar /. President Sooronbay Jeenbekov received c hairman of the Central Election Commission Nurzhan Shaildabekova to discuss the measures and tasks to improve the electoral legislation of the country.
Nurzhan Shaildabekova informed about the preparations for the elections to the local councils, appointed by decree of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic on May 13, 2018.
She also briefed about the ongoing work on drafting the Strategy for the Further Improvement of Election Legislation, the main objectives and directions of which will be discussed at the public dialogue, which is planned to be held in May 2018. Then the work will continue at the parliamentary level.
"Work on this issue is conducted in three subgroups formed within the framework of the Working Group established by the Decree, which includes deputies of the Jogorku Kenesh, representatives of state bodies and non-governmental organizations, independent experts. The necessary expert assistance is provided by international partners - the OSCE, UNDP and the EU, as well as other institutions - on selected issues for the development of a democratic electoral system," the CEC chairwoman said.
Shaildabekova also noted that the system of civic education is expected to be launched through the creation of the Civic Education Center under the CEC of the KR.
Jeenbekov recommended to intensify work on improving the electoral legislation, strengthening the party system, noting the special role of political parties in the development of the parliamentary system.
At the same time, he stressed the need for public and parliamentary discussion of the vital issues of the electoral system, clear scheduling of the timetable, so that in advance of the next elections the necessary amendments were made and explained to the participants in the elections.
