Kyrgyzstan proposes complete ban on production and circulation of low-alcohol energy drinks

Bishkek, Oct.4, 2019. /Kabar/. Parliament Member Ainuru Altybayeva initiated a bill to ban the production and circulation of tonic low-alcohol beverages.

According to the explanatory note, these beverages have been completely banned in France until recently, and there is a ban on their production in Germany.

On Nov.8, 2010, the U.S. State of Washington introduced a 120-day ban on the sale of alcoholic energy beverages with the possibility of extension. In December 2010, alcoholic energy drinks, containing caffeine, were completely withdrawn from sale throughout the United States, based on the authorities' conclusion that they were harmful to health.

The consequences of using of energy drinks:

- Blood pressure, total blood sugar levels rise;

- There are a number of side effects after the end of action of the drink: fatigue, irritability, insomnia, depression;

- The using of such a beverages are addictive.

- Contributes to the excess weight gain, etc.

Proceeding from the abovementioned justification of the harmful effect of consumption of low-alcohol tonic beverages, as well as in pursuance of the order to implement the decision of the Jogorku Kenesh Economic and Fiscal Policy Committee of 25 June 2019, the Ministry has developed a draft government decree “On the draft law “On Amendments to the Law “On State Regulation of Production and Turnover of Ethyl Alcohol, Alcoholic Products for Retail Sale and Consumption of Alcoholic Beverages, Toning Non-alcoholic and Low-Alcoholic Beverages” in terms of banning the production and circulation of tonic low-alcohol beverages in Kyrgyzstan.
