Border guards during the Afghan war were the first who risked and scarified their lives when the situation demanded it. Among those who performed their military duty in Afghanistan – were border guards of Kyrgyzstan, who received high state awards.

For showing courage and heroism, Stalbek Asakeyev and Alexander Nikitin were awarded the Order of the Red Star, and Vasily Imangaziyev was awarded the Order of the Red Banner and the Red Star. The names of these people are forever inscribed in the battle chronicle of the border guards," vice chairman of the State Border Service Kurmanbek Isakov said congratulating the internationalist soldiers.

Colonel of the reserve Munar Esenbaev served in the border troops for more than 30 years. "I remember being in Afghanistan with an assignment, I got information that the mujahideen are going to explode the Kazdeksky bridge - it was a strategic object. At first, I, then the young captain, did not believe that an attack was expected on the bridge. But a high-ranking military commander from Almaty arrived and checked the information, and it turned out that the dushmans were really preparing the seizure of the object," internationalist warrior Esenbayev shared his memories.

Today, 16 participants in the war in Afghanistan share their military experience with the younger generation of guardians of the border in the State Border Service.
