Bishkek, Feb.8, 2018 / Kabar /. Minister of Economy of Kyrgyzstan Artem Novikov expressed his hope that Uzbekistan will consider increasing the maximum rate of duty-free importation to individuals up to $ 1,000 for consumer goods during a meeting in a narrow format with Minister of Foreign Trade of Uzbekistan Jamshid Khodjaev.

In addition, the Minister of Economy of Kyrgyzstan raised the issue of liberalizing Uzbekistan's foreign trade.

"The substantial reduction of excisable import goods and the reduction of rates for certain commodity items back in Oct. 2017, will undoubtedly have a positive impact on the development of our trade relations. As a result of previous meetings between businessmen of the two countries, a number of mutually beneficial agreements were signed for the supply of Kyrgyz goods to the Uzbek market, and the supply of Uzbek produced goods to Kyrgyzstan," he said.

Novikov stressed the importance of ensuring equal conditions for market access for businesses of both countries and suggested revising the issue of applying excise taxes on Kyrgyz goods delivered to Uzbekistan.

As regards to a number of Kyrgyz goods (for example, mineral water, confectionery products), excise tax continues to be charged, high rates of which (from 50 to 20%) make the products of Kyrgyz producers not competitive in the Uzbek market.
