Kyrgyzstan and Russia agrees to develop traditional Islam together

Bishkek, Oct. 22, 2017 / Kabar /. Russian Islamic University (RIU) and Islamic University of Kyrgyzstan have signed a cooperation agreement to develop education in the spirit of traditional Islam and counter religious extremism, rector of RIU Arthur Suleimanov told.

"We share a common spiritual space and traditions with Kyrgyzstan, as well as a common understanding of Islam, we have a common religious and theological school, a common school in matters of faith, the signed agreement is aimed at preserving the traditional understanding of Islam, as our ancestors understood it, which were far from radicalism, terrorism, extremes and intolerance, "Suleimanov said.

He also said within the framework of the agreement teachers of the Russian Islamic University of the Central Spiritual Directorate of Muslims of Russia will go to Kyrgyzstan in November to conduct the refresher course "Belief in Traditional Islam".

It is expected that about 25 Kyrgyz teachers and imams will take in this course.

"At the same time, our teachers will have an opportunity to undergo an internship at the Islamic University of Kyrgyzstan, which is useful for preserving the traditional understanding of Islam," Suleimanov added.
