Kyrgyzstan and Centerra sign agreement on improving environmental conditions at Kumtor

Bishkek, Sept. 11, 2017. / Kabar /. The Government of Kyrgyzstan today signed the Strategic Agreement on Environmental Protection and Development of Investments for the Kumtor Project.

The agreement was signed by Kyrgyz Prime Minister Sapar Isakov and from the Canadian side - Chief Executive Officer of Centerra Gold Inc. Scott Perry.

During the signing ceremony, the prime minister said that the government pays special attention to environmental issues. "I think that after this agreement, the relations will be improved. I want to emphasize that the Kyrgyz Government attaches special importance to the environment, since what remains after Kumtor is our priority, and we want Kumtor's work to bring real benefits to the people," Isakov said.

The head of the Cabinet said that this is only the beginning.

He said that, the main priorities will be ecology, expansion of the scale of social partnership and direct investments. He also noted that the project activities should be as transparent as possible.
