Kyrgyz speaker and ambassador of Great Britain discuss inter-parliamentary cooperation

Bishkek, Oct. 28, 2019. / Kabar /. Speaker of the Kyrgyz Parliament Dastanbek Dzhumabekov received Ambassador of Great Britain to the Kyrgyz Republic Charles Garett.

According to the press service of the Parliament, during the meeting the sides discussed the current state of political, economic and cultural-humanitarian ties, issues of inter-parliamentary cooperation. In addition, the upcoming parliamentary elections in 2020.

Dzhumabekov congratulated Charles Garett on the start of a diplomatic mission in Kyrgyzstan and expressed hope that he would make a great contribution to strengthening bilateral relations. Then the speaker spoke about the reforms carried out in the country. “We have chosen the path of development of parliamentary democracy, the basis of which is the protection of human rights and the rule of law. In this regard, we are interested in cooperation with the UK, as a country with rich experience in this,” he said.

Dastanbek Dzhumabekov noted that Kyrgyzstan is ready to strengthen political dialogue and expand cooperation in various fields with all partners. “The development of trade and economic ties, the attraction of foreign investment are one of our main goals. And I believe that you will actively work in these areas in your diplomatic activities,” added the speaker.

Charles Garrett, noting the importance of all the issues discussed above, added that in his diplomatic mission, special emphasis will also be placed on strengthening inter-parliamentary ties. “We intend to continue to support the development of partnership between the state and private business, including the activities of the Council for the Development of Business and Entrepreneurship under the speaker,” said the ambassador.

In addition, Charles Garrett also raised the issue of organizing bilateral visits in the framework of interparliamentary cooperation.
