Bishkek, June 14 / Kabar /. The deputies of the Jogorku approved today a resolution on holding presidential elections on October 15 this year.
The draft resolution was supported by 82 deputies.
The date of the presidential elections should be set by the Jogorku Kenesh not later than 4 months before the election day. Thus, the election of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic is scheduled for October 15, 2017.
The draft resolution obliges the government of the Kyrgyz Republic, during the preparation and conduct of elections, to take necessary measures to ensure the legality, rights and freedoms of citizens, protection of public order and security, including the protection of the premises of election commissions and polling stations, their fire safety, convoying and transporting election documents.
The Public Prosecutor's Office must ensure compliance with the Constitution and laws of the Kyrgyz Republic; heads of local state administrations, mayors of Bishkek and Osh cities, heads of executive bodies of self-government are obliged to assist election commissions in solving organizational and technical issues.
Former Prime Minister Temir Sariev, leaders of Respublika Ata-Zhurt party Omurbek Babanov, and Onuguu Progress party Bakyt Torobayev and Ata Meken party leader Omurbek Tekebayev, who is currently in remand prison on corruption charges already declared their intentions to take part in the elections.
Prime Minister Sooronbai Zheenbekov is nominated by the decision of SDPK party’s political council, but the final decision on his participation will be taken in June at the session of the SPDK party.
