Bishkek, Jan. 18, 2018 / Kabar /. Kazakhstani experts noted the importance of cooperation in water resources management over Chu and Talas river basins, acting head of the inspection of the Shu-Talas basin of Kazakhstan Alymbek Kuralbaev told at the third meeting of the working group on climate change and long-term programs of action.

"Kazakhstan is downstream the Chu River, and receives 80% of the resources. Now three components are considered: the amount of water, the quality of water resources, and monitoring tasks. In recent years, we have experienced water shortages, for example, in 2008 and 2014, and there are also high-water years when we also experience difficulties. Our countries should settle this issue," he said.

The Kyrgyz side also satisfies its interests in this cooperation. Representative of the Kyrgyz hydrometeorolical service Lyudmila Duyshenbayeva said that the document should be adopted at the governmental level.

"Kyrgyzstan will receive great benefits from this project. These are new investments. Both Kyrgyz and Kazakh experts took part in the development of the project and it satisfies the interests of both countries," she said.

Representatives of state bodies and experts from Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan, as well as representatives of the Chu-Talas Water Commission discuss in Bishkek, the joint Strategic Action Program for water management of the Chu and Talas river basins.
