Bishkek, Oct.29, 2019. /Kabar/. Geneva (the Swiss Confederation) hosted the meeting of Kyrgyzstan’s Deputy Prime Minister Altynai Omurbekova and Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) Olga Algayerova, the press service of the Government reported.
In the course of the bilateral meeting, all areas of cooperation between the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic and the Commission were discussed, and a further vector of cooperation was outlined, including within the framework of the UNECE Sectoral Committees.
The meeting was held ahead of the Regional Review Meeting of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, which on Oct. 29-30 will bring together representatives of the UNECE region to discuss the gender agenda.
Discussing the themes of the Regional Meeting, the sides stated gender equality, the empowerment of women, women's full enjoyment of human rights and the eradication of poverty are essential to economic and social development, including the achievement of all the Millennium Development Goals.
Noting that over the past decade some progress had been made in achieving development goals, Deputy Prime Minister Altynai Omurbekova described the Government's efforts to build a national institutional mechanism on gender and develop a national legislative framework.
Altynai Omurbekova will continue her working visit to Geneva on Oct.29-20, 2019 as co-chair of the Beijing +25 Regional Review Meeting.
