Anatoly Karpov: there is growing interest in chess in Kyrgyzstan, especially among children

Bishkek, March 25, 2018 / Kabar /. President Sooronbay Jeenbekov met on March 24 with the world chess champion and State Duma deputy Anatoly Karpov.

President expressed gratitude to Anatoly Karpov for his visit to Kyrgyzstan and participation in the awarding ceremony of the winners of the fifth tournament of the President's Cup on chess among children.

Jeenbekov said that the tournament gives a significant impetus to the development of chess in the country, and participation of world chess multiple champion Karpov in the awarding ceremony for the second time is the evidence that the tournament is becoming popular.

"For children who have received a reward from your hands, it will be an unforgettable event in their lives," the president said.

World chess champion Anatoly Karpov said that there is a huge increase in interest in chess in Kyrgyzstan, especially among children.

"The growth of interest is colossal, last year 250 children participated in the tournament, this year already 400. Among them there are very small, wonderful children. There are successes, one boy at the World Championships took the third place. There are talented guys in Kyrgyzstan, I think that we can help them to grow further," Karpov said.

Jeenbekov and Karpov exchanged views on the holding of the Children's Chess Cup in summer of 2018 on the shore of Issyk-Kul and plans of opening Karpov’s Academy of Chess in Kyrgyzstan.
