Bishkek, March 30 / Kabar /. President of Kyrgyzstan Almazbek Atambayev received President of Radio Free Europe / Radio Liberty Media Corporation Thomas Kent at his personal request, the Kyrgyz President’s press service reports.
Thomas Kent said that Kyrgyzstan has always differed from other countries in the region by its desire for democracy and respect for freedom of speech. "We see this and therefore are very interested in continuing cooperation. Radio Free Europe / Radio Liberty has a good working experience in Kyrgyzstan," Thomas Kent said.
President Atambayev emphasized that for the people of Kyrgyzstan the concepts of freedom of speech and justice have always had a special significance, and today the country is going through a difficult stage on the way to building a legal, democratic state where people respect human rights and freedoms.
"Kyrgyzstan values the achieved level of freedom of speech and openness, which are the most important components of a democratic society," Almazbek Atambayev said. - However, unfortunately, not everyone understands that the freedom of expression of opinion existing in the country imposes a special responsibility on the mass media. The media should work honestly and objectively to prevent the discrediting of freedom of speech by fake technologies."
