Asian Development Bank (ADB) Vice-President Wencai Zhang reaffirmed ADB’s long-term partnership with the Kyrgyz Republic and commitment to support its economic development, during a 2-day visit to the country. During his visit, Mr. Zhang met with the President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sooronbai Zheenbekov, the Prime Minister Sapar Isakov; Minister of Finance and ADB Governor Adylbek Kasymaliev; Minister of Economy Artem Novikov; as well as other key government and development partners.
In an exclusive interview with Kabar News Agency, Mr. Zhang talked about the preparation of a new ADB country partnership strategy 2018-2023, which will be aligned with the government strategy for 2018-2023. He noted that ADB will continue to support infrastructure investment through energy, transport and urban infrastructure sectors, social sector through education and health, as well as projects in agriculture sector like irrigation, water resources management, food security, climate resilience and disaster risk management. He mentioned that ADB will try to promote more innovative technology in two member-countries, including the Kyrgyz Republic and find ways to support the initiatives of 20 pilot cities, in order to achieve stronger growth, more inclusive growth, more sustainable growth and more balanced growth of the country.
Mr. Zhang pointed out how ADB will continue to support regional cooperation, in particular, through CAREC (Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation). With the new CAREC strategy 2030, ADB expands its cooperation areas to economic corridor trade, tourism, agriculture sector, water resources management, social sectors, education, health and also financial sector cooperation and also policy dialogue and policy coordination within the 11-member countries.
In line with the government’s efforts to promote “The Year of Rural Development”, Mr. Zhang assured that ADB will support job creation, provide SME financing, support irrigation, water resources management, education and health sector.
